March Goal Post

It's been awhile since I've posted goals.  I think it's been since like last October.  Life got really busy and I got really behind on so many things that really, I was just working on a day-by-day plan just to make sure we finished what had to be done - especially with school.  I did write out my 2022 goal list before the end of 2021 but then I just didn't have time to really devote to it or to making a plan.  Our school year has been tough which means I'm spending much of my day on school (which is fine because as homeschooler's that is really what we should be doing!)  As we've started our 2nd semester I feel like we have finally gotten into a good middle school groove that works for all of us and we are actually working right on schedule.  The shift to having 2 kids in middle school level work and the work load that comes along with that was huge.  Last year I had an elementary kid who could basically do all of his own work but 6th grade is a whole different ball game which meant more time for me to work with him.  I'm hopeful that this new routine will carry us through not just this semester but also next year before we jump into high school (WHAT???)

Anyway, as I said, I did write goals for 2022 and it's pretty detailed.  I'm not going to lay it all out on here.  I do want to get back to the list of monthly goals though not so much for others that may (or may not) read them but for myself because it is fun for me to look back at past years and see what has been accomplished. My goal is to have 22 items (see what I did there?) each month that I want accomplished.

Here's the plan for March:

1. I'm working on following a "Declutter" calendar from a blog that I've followed for years.  My goal is to finish all of the March tasks and also to catch up on any tasks from January and February that are not done.

2. Work in the basement - we had made a lot of progress last year but then we added drums and a "band" space for all my guys to play together and stuff got "shoved".  The plan is to drag everyone to the basement one day in March and spend a few hours working together.  That way we can sort and get things out together.  Josh is really great at this - he worked by himself a few times last year.

3. Scrapbooking - I was really organized and well planned the last year and a half but then I stopped scrapbooking for a bit and am now a little unsure of where I stand.  Therefore I have a few goals with scrapbooking.  A) Get all of my pages that are done into albums and make a list of where I'm at for the 4 years I'm working on B) Write down where I'm at ordering photos so I don't re-order photos.  C) Set aside one weekend at least to scrapbook D) Upload all photos from my phone and camera and continue work on organizing my photos

4) Lego Room/Play Room - We have some old bookshelves that we attached to the wall years ago but they are about ready to fall apart.  I want to get those emptied and taken down.  This will also open up a little space for storage and a Lego Building area.

5) Reading - My goal this year is to read 52 books this year with 12 of them being non-fiction.  So my goal this month will be to read a total of 4 books - 3 for fun and 1 for learning.  I also want to sent up a Pinterest or Facebook page to record what I read all year. I did join an on-line book club this year so that will help with my reading too!

6) Music - Learn one piano song this month and then play it at church as a prelude.  Also, work on a special music number.

7) Family Fun - We always try to head to where Darryl and I got engage in March so that is on the plan.  Darryl and I also trying to go on a "date" once a month (even a simple coffee shop visit is fine).  Also plan some future events - maybe some concerts that are coming up or camping trips this summer, etc.  I just need to get an idea on some dates and costs to see what we can actually do

8) Bible Study - Complete my Bible Study 3 days a week and create my prayer journal

9) Make Darryl's to do list :-)  And then get some of those things done!

10) Learn how to make a really good Shrimp and Grits.

11) Restock our toiletry and medicine cabinet.

12) Update my holiday plan - I still need to do Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and now Valentine's.  Plus plan St. Patrick's Day and look ahead at Easter.

13) Wrap up our Co-op Semester and turn in my classes for the fall.

14) Clean out my vehicle - it always gets a little crazy between October and March when I don't want to stand outside and clean it out!

15) Work with Nate to clean his room and move stuff that he wants moved.

16) Finish filing our Taxes - normally I'm done by now but we are waiting on some paperwork still that we've told should be here by the end of February so we will see!

17) Put memorabilia in completed scrapbooks. This will free up some file space too!

18) Spend less money :-)  Really it is "track our spending" - when I track it and plan it out each week, we spend much less because it is already accounted for and it gives me a goal to work towards each week.  (And in case you didn't know, I like goals!)

19) Get my steps in every day.  Now the the weather will hopefully be slightly better for walking this will be easier.

20) Do Yogo (or Mindful Stretching) once a week.  A few years ago, Nate did a "Yoga" style class at our Co-Op and I was able to help in it a few times and actually like it.  I'd like to find a super easy "beginning" program online to follow.  Who knows, maybe I'll like it more HA!

21) Go through my kids closets and figure out what fits (or doesn't fit!) for the summer.  It won't be long and it will be time to buy all the summer goods!

22) Mattress shop.  Who knew buying a new Mattress is almost more stressful than buying a car (which we are in the process of doing right now!!) but it is!  Darryl's back requires certain things with a mattress so it makes it harder to find what will work.  So we will see!

Whew - that is a tough list of 22 really.  This is one time I think it might be more than can handled in one month but will see how it goes - I might need to trim this back to like . . .11 (Half of 22 in case you were wondering) next month.

Weekly Menu

Where did February go?  I'm really not sure to be honest.  I blinked and it is March.  That's what it feels like at least!  Our free Dinnerly box deliveries ends this next week and I can't say I'm sad.  This meal service has not been great; I haven't used the ingredients for the recipes they were supposed to be used for; and I would not order from them if it wasn't free!  While I'm thankful for the opportunity to get the boxes, I'm glad to be back to not using them and planning my own meals.  I ordered lots of meals with the steaks so I could put them in my freezer and use them for other meals :-)  (The steaks were great -just super small)

I'm back to planning meals for the month!  I made a master list of our favorite meals and plugged those all into March which left room for some of the others we like and maybe even a few new ones.

Here's the plan for this coming week!

Friday - Pot Pies :-)  Super easy - just throw them in the oven and cook!  (I have to cook for a family party tomorrow - I don't want to cook tonight!)

Saturday - Time for that family party :-)  I'm taking meatballs, cheese ball and crackers and chicken pasta salad.

Sunday - Pulled Chicken in the crock pot, crash potatoes, and a veggie

Monday - Beef Tips and Noodles

Tuesday - Enchiladas and chips and salsa

Wednesday - We all go separate directions this week.

Thursday - Chicken Alfredo, green beans and garlic bread

Weekly Menu

It's hard to believe that we are at the end of February.  Which also means it is Darryl's birthday week!  We have another weekend with only one kid home since Joshua is heading to Snow Camp this time!  Otherwise, things are pretty normal.

Friday - By this time in our Co-Op year I know if dinner is not in the crock pot, we will end up eating out.  The last thing I feel like doing have teaching/working for three hours and then cleaning for a  few more hours is cooking dinner when I get home!!  A favorite (and a crock pot meal that cooks a lot of hours!) is Mississippi Pot Roast.  I'll add Bob Evans Mashed Potatoes, and Corn for a super tasty, super easy meal!

Saturday - My Mom's for dinner!

Sunday - We don't have much time between church and when Josh will be home so we are just going to grab McDonald's while we wait for him.

Monday - BBQ Cups and French Fries

Tuesday - It's Darryl's birthday!  He got to chose what he wanted and he picked:

Wednesday - Dinnerly!

Thursday - Dinnerly!

Weekly Menu

I feel a little like February is racing by and I haven't quite been able to catch my breath.  Like the calendar flipped and the days have flown by.  Our nights have gotten a little more busy and I find trying to cook meals "like I used to" is harder because our time is different.  The Dinnerly meals are still coming and are hit and miss at this point.  I'm ordering more based on the protein that I can use in other ways then the meal itself. Honestly, I would not pay for this meal service.  Joshua is going to take part in a speciality drumming class for 5 weeks on Mondays, Nate's guitar lessons will begin soon on Tuesdays, Wednesdays are church activities and Joshua now does his regular drum lessons on Thursdays right at 5:00.  Not to mention my choir practice starts at the end of March on Mondays just about the time Joshua's special drum sessions end. All of that to say, I'm realizing I need to rethink our dinners and make them more

With that said, it's time to plan meals for the coming week which includes a Superbowl and Valentine's Day.

Friday - I have no idea HA!  For real.  We have our Co-Op, Nate is heading to Winter Camp, and I have to go to the grocery store. Busy day!  My plan is to pick something up at the store that is quick and easy to make for Darryl, Josh and I at home.

Saturday - I think Darryl and I are taking off to do some car "shopping" (or looking at least) so I'm not sure what the day will hold.  More than likely we will eat at home instead of my mom's.

Sunday - It's Superbowl Sunday!  We are having our normal Superbowl Feast but at my mom's this year which will be fun!  She's planning most of the snacks. Yum!

Monday -It's Valentine's Day!  Chicken Alfredo, Salad, Garlic Bread, Chocolate Covered Strawberries and I usually make another nice dessert too :-)

Tuesday - Pancakes, Breakfast meats, Scrambled Eggs, and Potatoes (A carry over meal from previous weeks)

Wednesday - We kinda run in different directions this week so we will just all eat from the fridge/freezer

Thursday - Beef Tips and Noodles and Crescent Rolls (A carry over meal from last week)

Weekly Menu

Over the past few weeks we have enjoyed our Dinnerly meals that have been provided through Connections Academy, the online school we use for homeschooling.  I had said I would share photos and what we thought of the recipes.  I have not very simply because I'm not overly impressed.  I've had to combine some recipes to even give enough food for three of us to eat for dinner.  The variety is very slim and the serving sizes are small.  They often only give a main dish or meat and potatoes - not a lot of veggies - and I have to supplement a lot to get it to stretch as a meal.  My opinion is that Hello Fresh did a much better job at providing enough food, enough variety, and even the items that made a full meal.  They also provided beautiful recipe cards with lots of photos.  Dinnerly does not provide recipe cards - I have to print them and they have no photos.  BUT I'm still making good on the meals - I'm ordering meals with cuts of meat that I could use for different recipes.   For example. many recipes come with Ranch Steaks which are great for beef tips, fajitas, and more.  Or chicken that I can use in quesadillas and soups.  Right now that is a huge savings since meat is so pricey in the store!

Here's the plan for the coming week

Friday - Mississipi Pot Roast, Mashed Potatoes and Corn

Saturday - At my mom's!

Sunday - We have a potluck at church.  I plan to take meatballs and I think a salad.  I haven't decided on that piece yet!

Monday - Beef Tips and Noodles

Tuesday - Dinnerly - Lemony Chicken and Linguine and Vegetarian Nicoise Salad (these are two separate Dinnerly recipes that I'm serving together. ) I'll probably add garlic bread too.

Wednesday - Tacos.  Easy Peasy

Thursday - Dinnerly - Pork Tenderloin, corn, Mac and Cheese and biscuits. (It only comes with the pork and corn)
