Food Friday - Amazing Fruit Dip

Do you have recipes that are a family favorite but find that they fall to the back of the recipe file either because you feel like you use it too much or you get tired of it?  Well, this fruit dip is one of those recipes.  It is nothing short of amazing and is a recipe that I've had for probably close to 20 years.  It comes from my sister-in-law, Debby, and she made it for Christmas Eve as her dip of choice.  Trust me on this one, if you love fruit and dip - try this recipe out.  It would go great with a breakfast or just for an afternoon snack!

Fruit Dip
adapted from Debby McMaster (my sister-in-law)

This is such a simple, but amazing recipe.  Each time I make it I'm always stumped by how something so simple could taste so good.  Seriously, I don't even need the fruit, I could just eat the dip by the spoonful.  My husband asked today, "Dose it matter if the amount of dip is twice as large as the piece of fruit?"  I generally serve this with Strawberries and Fresh Pineapple but just chose your favorite fruit and dip away!

1 small box of Instant Vanilla Pudding mix
1/2 cup sour cream
2 cups cool whip
milk

Mix together the cool whip, sour cream, and pudding mix until light and fluffy.  Only had a scant amount of milk if it isn't mixing well (I find if I make this in the summer, I have to add milk - don't know why, just seems that way)

If you are making this for a crowd you will want to at least double the recipe.

Another recipe suggestion for this - you can use this dip to make an fantastic summer Trifle.  Pick up a bakery angel food cake or lemon cake and cube the cake, then layer the cake, a good amount of this dip, and strawberries; repeat layers as many times as your bowl will hold - ending with a layer of the dip and strawberries.  My sister-in-law served this as dessert when we visited them and I could have eaten the whole bowl.

If you make this and you love it, let me know!
