* We were talking about things we were going to do on Saturday for our family fun day when I suggested that we go to Smashburger for Lunch. Josh agreed and said he couldn't wait to eat a SmashBOOGER :-) hahahaha. We laughed about it all day long!
* Nate was playing a game and all of a sudden I heard him exclaim, "OH MY Whiskers!!!" hehehehe
Slim pickin's this week - not sure if I wasn't paying close enough attention, if my kids were quiet, or if I'm just forgetful and not writing things down!

A Summer Wreath!
Several years ago I saw the idea of making a flip flop wreath but I could not find the much talked about "Dollar Store Flip Flops." and I wasn't going to spend $5.00 a pair when I needed 5-8 pairs! Well, this year we went into the Dollar Store a few weeks ago and guess what? There were those flip flops. I bought one pair and then went back a week later to slim pickin's! Wow, those go fast!!!
This is a fun wreath for summer, even if it isn't perfect ;-) I bought a small wreath form and figured out halfway through gluing the flip flops on it that I should have bought the large form - the flip flops would have fit a little better. I wrapped the wreath in some simple green burlap ribbon and then added a pink bow when it was all done for a splash of color. The boys loved "helping" but their favorite part was the fact that there were a couple of extra pairs of Flip Flops that they quickly claimed!! :-)

Food Friday - Egg Salad
Egg Salad
adapted from . . .ME!
I know, I know - Egg Salad? Who needs a recipe? Well, I felt that way for years but I always found my egg salad to be lacking. Then I finally had a "light bulb" moment! What I really love and seldom make are deviled eggs. I then thought to myself, who needs to stuff eggs? Why not just make it into a salad and there, my friends, is where the perfect egg salad was formed!

Weekly Menu and Food Prep!
It's summer so you know what that means . . .. fruits and veggies galore and lots of food prep. I've learned the hard way that if the fruit and veggies are not prepped quickly, they tend to sit and rot in the fridge, never to be eaten. I usually go to the store on Thursday or Friday evenings and then do all of the food prep the following day. So without further delay, this is what I prepped last week!
I cut up strawberries and put together two containers of blueberries - one for the fridge and one for the freezer since Josh loves frozen blueberries. Added to that I cleaned corn, chopped up lettuce, and put together a marinated veggie salad for me to eat with all meals and even snack on during the week. Plus, I made two kinds of Rice Krispy treats and prepped 2 huge packages of ground chuck for the freezer. Finally, I got steaks marinading for dinner that evening. We did eat it all and it was all good!
Now, on to this weeks meal plan.
Friday - Breakfast for dinner - when I planned last weeks menu, I forgot about a board meeting on Wednesday night so, I left dinner for the boys and Darryl (Hot Dogs and Mac and Cheese!). So tonight we'll have waffles and Bacon for dinner tonight.
Saturday - It's a family day! This is the last "free" Saturday before my husbands surgery (the next two Saturdays are filled with extended family gatherings) so we decided to make it a fun day with the boys since it will be at least a month after surgery before Darryl will most likely feel up to taking any big trips. With that said, we'll be eating lunch and dinner out.
Sunday - as much fun as eating out Last Sunday was - since we ate out twice yesterday, we plan to eat at home. I'm going to try a new slow cooker recipe - Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Sandwiches with "Chinese" Coleslaw and Fruit. We'll have that after church and then dinner has become more of a "what would you like" affair. Last week Josh wanted Frozen Blueberries and Nate wanted Spaghetti (he only eats the noodles so it is easy!). I always have soup on hand and there is usually cheese and crackers and Mac and Cheese so there are plenty of choices!
Monday - Hamburgers on the Grill (YUM!) and French Fries
Tuesday- Pancakes - I may get creative and do a Strawberry, Fun Fetti recipe I saw . . .or a chocolate one . . or just plain old pancakes. I'll serve up some breakfast meat - Sausage and/or Ham.
Wednesday - Pulled Pork Stuffed Sweet Potato (Another new Slow Cooker Recipe), Mac and Cheese (more for the kids), and Rolls
Thursday - The boys and I all have haircuts scheduled for tonight so, just like on Soccer nights (which has now ended), we will hit our favorite fast food restaurants (yes, plural - we make three stops!) before heading home.
That's whats for dinner ;-)

Hand towels
Really, Hand towels? Yes! I had a brainstorm recently have repeatidly trying to get the kids to use a hand towel by the sink to dry their hands and wipe their dirty face rather than using MY towel that was hanging up. Well, after seeing one more "pizza face" wiped clean on the towel I use after my shower I knew I had to change something!
This was a very simple idea with just some hand towels and ribbon.
All I did was sew a small pocket along the short end of the hand towel and insert a ribbon. I then sewed the end of the ribbon together to try and make it stronger for little hands pulling on it.
That's it! I made two so I always have one to hang up when I wash the other. I went with black because it would hide stains :-) Between the towel and the ribbon this project cost about $3.50 a towel to make!

The Garden
My garden. I am not a gardener nor do I enjoy working outside but I do love to see flowers and my kids have a thing about picking fruits and veggies that we grow so I suffer through ;-)
This is one well loved strawberry. Josh finally got to eat it on Thursday night and he loved it.
I'm so glad that I decided to plant the strawberries in a deck planter because they boys love watching them turn red.
Nate is my little helper. He loves to water and help me "work" in my garden.
This year, I planted a Citronella plant with hopes it would help with the mosquito's by the deck. I don't think it is working.
I finally finished this flower bed after two years. I picked out some great plants and am looking forward to watching it all fill in.
One of my new flowering plants.
Another new flowering plant.
Cala-Lillies are a favorite so I finally bought a plant this year and hope it will keep growing every year!
Hens and Chicks - years and years ago I picked out a Hen and Check to plant in our flower bed at home - I loved it. I've waited for years to finally plant another one!
The garden. :-)
My hostas - my parents gave them to me last year and they are growing like wild-fire!
More strawberries!
These two photos (above and below) are some of my favorites. Above are my black eyed susans. They are a little rough right now due to some rain but when they fill in, they are huge and I love them! Below are tons and tons of lilies! I love that it is completely filled in :-)
My little helper again :-)
The next project is the side of the house. I plan to plant some tall grass and Allum (sp?). Hoping to get the grass in in the next month, lay some mulch and then plant the Allum in the fall. I also want to plant tulip bulbs all along the house too!

Things My Kids Say
* Well getting dressed for soccer, Nate was attempting to get his cleats on when he informed me that he couldn't get his "hood" in. I was totally confused until he pointed to his heel and said, "Mom, my hood won't go in my shoe. It's the part that is soft and covers my bones so they don't hurt. That's just how God Made me." I wasn't to laugh until he said, "I know alot about God, but I want to learn more. I learned alot at church at Papa's church". I can't argue with that!
*Mosquitoes attacked us one night as we entered the house, so needless to say, we had some in the house. Josh informed me that the next time he sees one on me, he will hammer it. He will try not to hurt me but he WILL hammer that Mosquito!
* Josh and Nate were having a discussion one day about Willow, my parents dogs. Josh informed Nate that Willow was a baby when Nate was a baby BUT when he was a baby . .. (Josh stopped to think for a moment) Willow was in Nana's tummy and the doctors had to take her out. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I was seriously busting a gut on the other side of the room trying not to laugh out loud at that one.
* Nate told me that to eat in the living room, I needed a "head banger". . .. he walked me to the bathroom and pointed to the tray tables (yes, I store them in there - don't judge). The things he comes up with!
